The appeal against PG Andersson's exclusion from the FIA Junior World Rally Championship category of Rally Turkey will be heard next Monday (27 November), the day before the recce begins for Wales Rally GB. Depending on the outcome of the hearing, Andersson could become 2006 J-WRC champion before the final round of this year's series begins.
Andersson was excluded from Rally Turkey for a servicing infringement and the Svenska Bilsportforbundet lodged an appeal against the Stewards' decision on his behalf. The hearing will take place at the International Court of Appeal on Monday and an announcement regarding the decision is expected to be made on Tuesday 28 November.
If the appeal is successful and Andersson's result is reinstated, then he will become 2006 Junior World Rally Champion, subject to approval of the final results by the FIA, as he will be uncatchable in the title race in GB.
If, however, the appeal is not upheld, then the championship will go down to the wire on the final round. There are currently five drivers who can take the title; Andersson, Urmo Aava, Patrick Sandell, Guy Wilks, Jozef Beres and Kris Meeke.
