Janne Tuohino will compete on the Pirelli Rally in Finland this weekend, in place of Ford BP Rallye Sport driver Markko Märtin. Märtin and his British co-driver Michael Park had been due to compete on the Tampere-based event as a warm up for the Neste Rally Finland next week. However, as the pair are still recovering from their high speed accident in Argentina 14 days ago, it has been recommended that they do not compete in Tampere, but rest before starting the recce for Rally Finland on Tuesday.
Tuohino and his regular co-driver Jukka Aho are excited at the prospect of driving the Ford Focus RS WRC on home ground before Rally Finland. "I've done the Pirelli Rally before. We finished second on the event two years ago in a Ford Focus WRC 01 car, when the rally was based at Mantta. It's a shame that Markko can't compete, but it's a great opportunity for me to drive on fast roads before next week and I think we've got a good chance of winning the event. I'm really looking forward to it".
Ford BP Rallye Sport have completed a four day gravel test as valuable preparation for Rally Finland next week. Markko Märtin and Michael Park and Ford BP team mates Franįois Duval and Stéphane Prévot together with Janne Tuohino and Jukka Aho, have covered in excess of 800kms in their Ford Focus RS WRC test car, since Monday. Held in the Jyväskylä area, the team have suffered from torrential rain for the last two days but the early part of the week was warm and dry. The team have been concentrating on car setup, suspension testing and tyre work with Michelin.
The team will travel 150kms from Jyväskylä to Tampere this evening. Tuohino will recce the stages tomorrow and the Pirelli Rally starts in Tampere at 11.00 on Saturday morning. 145 crews will cover six competitive stages, totalling 100kms during the one day event.
