7 MARTIN-PARK
We had a flat tyre in SS1 and SS2 and started SS3 with one flat tyre. Michael Park confimed that the stages had been graded since the recce, but insisted that this had made the surface more slippery than before!
3 LOEB-ELENA
It was a lot bumpier than we thought when we did the recce. In a saloon car you really notice the difference after using a 4x4 on the recce.
5 GRONHOLM-RAUTIAINEN
There has been some regrading work. I think our tyre choice was okay, but there was a lot of loose gravel on the roads and it was crucial that you kept out of the ruts. We nearly spun on two occasions. Then we started SS3 with no air in the right rear tyre.
4 SAINZ-MARTI
Confirmed that the paddle gear selector was repaired after the first stage. He had completed SS1 with the clutch and manual gearchange.
2 HIRVONEN-LEHTINEN
Was pleased with his performance in SS1, but admitted that this was the first time that he had driven with the new XR tyre pattern. You need to be experienced to get the most from this tyre.
6 ROVANPERA-PIETILAINEN
A flat tyre on SS1 and SS2, but was pleased with his performance in SS3.
89 DOBSON-SUMNER
Driveshaft problems in SS2 and retired.
11 TUOHINO-AHO
Forced to bleed his brakes between the first and second stages.
TYRE NEWS
The second loop of stages this afternoon will be much harder on the tyres for two reasons, said Pirelli´s Rally Manager Fiorenzo Brivio. The stages will be much cleaner and that means they will be rockier. Plus, the outside temperatures have been rising steadily during the morning.
9 PANIZZI-PANIZZI
It is a case of learning and more learning a case of finding how hard we can push the car without breaking it.
