Rootsi ralli 2004 teine päev
Moderaatorid: KAIKUL, Jaanus, Strike, jagr, Erki

A varem sisse tulekud on arusaamatud.

Jutud said vist alguse L'Equipe nimelisest ajalehest. Aga jah, Provera varemgi igasugu asju ümber lükkanud.

Freddy Loix is probably a worried man right now, with some very public questions being asked about his future at Peugeot.
The Belgian is the first to admit that hes been disappointed by his performance to date and going off this morning certainly hasnt helped matters.
But whats certain is that Freddy will be driving for Peugeot in Mexico and for at least seven rallies after that. His contract stipulates 10 events, but it doesnt say anything about which car he will be driving and whether or not he will be nominated for manufacturer points.
Its clear that Freddys performance at the moment is not at the level of the car, said Peugeot Sport boss Corrado Provera. He feels as disappointed about that as we do. But you have to remember that Freddy was employed by us as a third driver. Then the rules changed, which meant that he became our second driver. So he is in a role that was never planned for him.
Freddy signed for Peugeot shortly after the Rally of Finland last August. At the time, a rule had just come into force stating that a teams third driver in 2004 must be somebody who has not finished on the podium in the last three years. Freddy fitted the bill perfectly, which is why Peugeot snapped him up. Citroen went for Simon Jean-Joseph as a third driver, but were maybe slightly cleverer by putting a clause in his contract that stated it would only be valid if the rules remained the same.
To cut a long story short, they didnt. After a remarkable series of u-turns, the regulations ended up as they are now: teams can only score points using two cars, with one driver being permanently nominated and the possibility of switching the other points-scoring driver from rally to rally (as Ford has done in Sweden by bringing in Janne Tuohino).
So the way is clear for Peugeot to replace Freddy if they want to although they would have a contractual obligation to run him as a third car until he has done 10 events.
We will be thinking hard between now and Mexico about what to do, said Corrado. Its certain that Freddy will be driving in Mexico, but its also clear that we need to find a solution. I dont know what that solution is, but its important for Peugeot to have the maximum opportunity to win the manufacturers championship.
Essentially, Peugeot have three options now. Either they stick with Freddy and try and bring him up to speed, or they replace him with an acknowledged frontrunner. Option three is to replace Freddy only on certain events by using a series of specialists.
Colin McRae is clearly in the frame, and although he has acknowledged some contact with Peugeot, the team themselves are keeping tight-lipped. Or Peugeot could scrap the whole (expensive?) McRae idea and use a mixed bag of drivers instead maybe including the recently-ousted Harri Rovanpera.
Its a tough call to make. Corrado faces some sleepless nights...
